About this course
This course prepares you to audit a quality management system against AS9120B, the aviation, space and defense standard for stockists, pass-through distributors and brokers. It assumes you know the basics of the standard and takes you clause by clause through what each requirement means for a distributor and what evidence shows it is met.
The operational clauses get the deepest treatment: product safety and counterfeit prevention, requirements review, control of external sources, splitting and kitting, traceability, release with a distributor certificate of conformity, and the limited dispositions available for nonconforming product. You will learn how to trace a part through a split lot, audit an approved source list, read a certificate for red flags, test quarantine and reporting, and walk a warehouse with preservation, ESD and shelf life in mind.
Shared modules cover auditing fundamentals, the audit process, nonconformity writing and root cause analysis, and reporting and follow-up, all expressed in the vocabulary of AS9120B. Scenarios throughout are drawn from real distribution audits.
Eight modules, each with a quiz, lead to a final examination. Passing earns a PlanetISO Certificate of Completion valid for three years.
What you will be able to do
- Explain the scope of AS9120B and recognize when a distributor's activities fall outside it
- Interpret the requirements of clauses 4 to 10 as they apply to a distributor and identify the evidence that demonstrates conformity
- Audit counterfeit prevention, source approval, flow-down and receiving verification against clauses 8.1.4 and 8.4
- Trace product from receipt through a split lot to shipment and confirm identification, traceability and quantity reconciliation
- Review manufacturer certificates and distributor certificates of conformity for consistency and red flags
- Evaluate control of nonconforming and suspect counterfeit product, including quarantine, customer notification and industry reporting
- Plan, conduct and report an internal audit using a process approach and write nonconformities with requirement, evidence and statement
- Evaluate root cause analysis and corrective action, including human factors and flow-down to external sources
