About this course

This course prepares you to lead audits of quality management systems against AS9120B, the aviation, space and defense standard for stockists, pass-through distributors and brokers. It is written for people who will plan audit programmes, lead audit teams, grade findings and defend conclusions, whether as internal lead auditors, second-party supplier auditors or candidates for certification body work.

The clause modules go beyond interpretation to judgment: how to settle a distributor's scope when it uses third-party warehouses, how to grade a counterfeit prevention failure, how to tell a false statement of conformity from a documentation slip, and how to recognize when scattered gaps point to one leadership finding. Scenarios are drawn from certification, surveillance and second-party audits of real distributors.

You will learn the 9101 method as it applies to distribution: writing process effectiveness assessment reports for sourcing, receiving, storage and fulfilment, running stage 1 and stage 2, applying 9104-1 audit time and multi-site rules, and handling counterfeit discoveries and traceability breaks mid-audit. The ICOP scheme, auditor authentication and OASIS are covered so you understand the environment certification body auditors work in.

Shared modules on auditing fundamentals, programme management, the audit process, leading a team, nonconformities and root cause, and reporting and follow-up are expressed in AS9120B vocabulary. Eleven modules with quizzes lead to a timed final examination. Passing earns a PlanetISO Certificate of Completion valid for three years.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain the ICOP scheme, the 9104 series, auditor authentication and the role of OASIS in AS9120B certification
  • Determine the correct scope for a distributor, including multi-site and third-party storage arrangements and justified exclusions
  • Interpret clauses 4 to 10 of AS9120B for a distributor and identify the evidence that demonstrates conformity and effectiveness
  • Grade nonconformities in counterfeit prevention, traceability, release and nonconforming product control using 9101 definitions
  • Write process effectiveness assessment reports for distribution processes and assign effectiveness levels supported by data
  • Plan and lead stage 1, stage 2, surveillance and second-party audits of distributors, including audit time and multi-site sampling
  • Lead an audit team through counterfeit discoveries, traceability breaks and pressure to omit findings
  • Evaluate corrective action for root cause quality, human factors, flow-down to sources and demonstrated effectiveness

Course outline

  1. 1

    AS9120B overview for lead auditors

The standard in its scheme context: the ICOP scheme, the 9104 series, auditor authentication, OASIS and what certification bodies expect when they audit a distributor.

About 40 minutes, then a module quiz

  2. 2

Clauses 4 to 6 for lead auditors

About 40 minutes, then a module quiz

  3. 3

Clauses 7 and 8 for lead auditors

Support and operation in depth, with the distribution additions that carry the most risk: measuring resources, awareness, records, product safety, counterfeit prevention, requirements review, external providers, controlled distribution activities, traceability, release and nonconforming outputs.

About 70 minutes, then a module quiz

  4. 4

Clauses 9 and 10 for lead auditors

Performance evaluation and improvement: judging whether monitoring, internal audit, management review and corrective action actually drive the distributor's QMS.

About 40 minutes, then a module quiz

About 50 minutes, then a module quiz

  7. 7

    The audit process

Planning, preparing, conducting and closing an audit of a quality management system, step by step, with the evidence-gathering techniques auditors rely on.
