About this course

AS9120B is the quality management standard for organizations that buy aviation, space and defense parts and resell them: stockists, pass-through distributors, brokers and kitting houses. It takes the familiar ISO 9001:2015 framework and adds the controls that matter when you do not make the product but are responsible for where it came from and what paperwork travels with it.

This course explains those additions in plain language. You will learn why traceability through split lots, control of approved sources, counterfeit part prevention and the distributor certificate of conformity are the heart of the standard, and what a distributor may and may not do to product in its care.

You will also see how the standard fits into the wider aerospace system: the IAQG, the OASIS database, the 9101 audit method, the relationship to AS9100D, AS6081 and AS5553, and the regulators' concern with suspected unapproved parts. The outlook to IA9120 is covered so you know what is coming without confusing it with current requirements.

The course is built from five modules with short quizzes and ends with a final examination. Passing earns a PlanetISO Certificate of Completion.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain who AS9120B applies to and which activities fall outside its scope
  • Describe how AS9120B relates to ISO 9001:2015, AS9100D and the coming IA9120
  • Identify the distribution additions in clauses 4 to 7, including documented information, measuring resources, product safety awareness and ethical behaviour
  • Explain the clause 8 controls on counterfeit prevention, requirements review, approved sources, traceability through splits, release and nonconforming product
  • Describe what a distributor certificate of conformity must and must not do
  • Recognize the role of OASIS, the 9101 audit method and the certification cycle
  • Explain how on-time delivery, product conformity and human factors shape performance evaluation and corrective action
