About this course
If you work at an aerospace, defense or technology supplier in the United States, you handle export-controlled hardware, software or technical data more often than you think. A drawing sent to the wrong person, a laptop taken on a trip or a question answered at a trade show can each be an unauthorized export. This course gives you the awareness to notice those moments and the habit of stopping to ask.
You will learn what the ITAR (22 CFR parts 120 to 130, administered by DDTC) and the EAR (15 CFR parts 730 to 774, administered by BIS) control, how the United States Munitions List and the Commerce Control List differ, what ECCNs and EAR99 mean, and why deemed exports to foreign persons inside the United States catch so many well-meaning employees. You will then work through the daily controls: marking, access and need to know, visitors and escorts, email and cloud storage, travel and hand carry, shipping and freight forwarders, restricted party screening and red flags. The final module runs four realistic scenarios and explains what to do when you suspect a violation.
This is awareness-level training and not legal advice. It does not qualify you to classify items, invoke exemptions or decide whether a transfer is authorized. Those decisions belong to your company's empowered official or trade compliance function, and you should follow your own company's procedures.
The course is written for engineers, buyers, sales and customer support staff, shipping and receiving, IT and anyone who hosts visitors. It closes with a 10-question examination drawn from a bank of 20. On passing you receive a PlanetISO Certificate of Completion with lifetime access to the course content. The certificate does not expire.

- Apply daily controls for marking, access, visitors, IT, travel, hand carry and shipping.
- Identify red flags in orders, enquiries and conversations and apply the stop-and-ask rule.
- Describe the correct response to a suspected violation and the role of voluntary disclosure.
- Name whom to contact in your organization for classification, access and compliance questions.
