About this course

AS9100D is the quality management standard that aviation, space and defense customers write into their contracts. It contains every requirement of ISO 9001:2015 and adds the controls the industry learned it needed: operational risk management, configuration management, product safety, counterfeit part prevention, first article inspection and strict rules on nonconforming product.

This course takes you through the standard clause by clause in plain language. You will see exactly where the aerospace additions sit, why customers asked for them and what they look like in a working machine shop, electronics assembler or design house.

You will also learn how the certification scheme works: the IAQG, the OASIS database, the 9101 audit method with its process effectiveness reports, and the oversight that keeps certification bodies and auditors accountable. Customer-specific requirements from the major primes are introduced at awareness level.

The course closes with a 20-question examination drawn from a bank of 30. On passing you receive a PlanetISO Certificate of Completion with lifetime access to the course content and your certificate.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain how AS9100D relates to ISO 9001:2015 and to the 9110 and 9120 standards.
  • Describe the role of the IAQG, the ICOP certification scheme and the OASIS database.
  • Identify the aerospace additions in clauses 4 to 7, including the management representative role and calibration recall.
  • Summarize the operational requirements for risk, configuration management, product safety and counterfeit prevention.
  • Explain what must be flowed down to external providers and how first article inspection verifies a production process.
  • State the rules for release documentation, dispositions of nonconforming product and customer notification.
  • Describe how certification audits are conducted under 9101, including PEARs and nonconformity classification.
